Schminkmotive zu Halloween

Als eines der beliebtesten Schminkmotive zu Halloween sieht man immer mehr wunderschöne Totenkopfmasken. Diese blumigen Totenköpfe kommen aus der mexikanischen Tradition des Feiertags Dia de los Muertos. Sehr schöne Beispiele dieser Schminkmotive zu Halloween konnte man bereits beim James Bond Film  “ SPECTRE“ bewundern. Fröhliches Totenfest: Mexiko feiert den Día de los Muertos

Freude und ausgelassenes Feiern statt Trauer: In Mexico wird Ende Oktober auf besondere Weise der Verstorbenen gedacht: Mit dem „Día de los Muertos“. Dieser Tag der Toten ist nicht nur einer der wichtigsten Feiertage in Mexiko, er ist auch ein buntes, fröhliches Volksfest – mit teilweise skurrilen Bräuchen.

Gemäß dem Glauben der Ureinwohner Mexikos besuchen die Toten einmal im Jahr, von Ende Oktober bis Anfang November, die Lebenden und kehren zu ihren Familien zurück. Was für manch einen angsteinflößend klingen mag, ist in Mexiko ein beliebter Brauch, der 2003 von der UNESCO zum Meisterwerk des mündlichen und immateriellen Erbes der Menschheit ernannt wurde.

Leckereien für die Verstorbenen

Am „Tag der Toten“ werden zu Ehren der Verstorbenen im ganzen Land farbenprächtige Altäre aufgestellt und mit Beigaben verziert, die die vier grundlegenden Elemente der Natur darstellen: Früchte symbolisieren das Element Erde und verwöhnen die Seelen mit ihrem süßlichen Aroma. Hauchzarte Scherenschnittbilder aus Seidenpapier (papel picado) stellen den Wind dar und Gefäße gefüllt mit Wasser stillen den Durst der Seelen nach ihrem langen Weg aus dem Jenseits. Kerzen und Grablichter leuchten als Feuer-Element den Weg.

Während der Feierlichkeiten wird den toten Seelen allerlei an kulinarischen Spezialitäten geboten. Freilich dürfen auch die Lebenden von den Leckereien kosten: Das traditionelle süße Totenbrot (pan de muerto), Zucker-Totenköpfe (calaveras de dulce) sowie Skelette und Särge aus Marzipan dürfen auf dem festlichen Speiseplan nicht fehlen. Dazu werden Mezcal und Tequila sowie das Nationalgetränk Mexikos Pulque (fermentierter Saft aus Agaven) gereicht.

Fröhlichkeit statt Trauer

Auf den Friedhöfen Mexikos geht es während des „Día de los Muertos“ besonders feierlich zu. Im Licht unzähliger Kerzen beten die Angehörigen für ihre verstorbenen Familienmitglieder und Freunde. Aber dabei steht nicht die Trauer im Vordergrund, sondern Freude und festliche Ausgelassenheit: So wird bei einem fröhlichen Picknick am Grab der Liebsten gemeinsamen gegessen, getrunken, gesungen und getanzt. Außerdem finden zahlreiche Festivals sowie Kostümwettbewerbe statt, die sehr deutlich machen, dass der „Tag der Toten“ in Mexiko ein Fest der Freude und nicht der Trauer ist.
